Sports Families Unite

April 1, 2011 - Amy Leigh Wilson
This issue is dedicated to sports families. As a mom of two athletes, I can say that the sports world is exciting and tiresome. For me, it's a source of never-ending joy and also a huge strain on our budget. Sports have helped keep my kids in shape, make a lot new friends and learn how to deal with different personalities. I think they offer many great opportunities for lessons that can't be taught anywhere else. This area has a ton of great programs for girls and boys. Even if you think your kid isn't talented athletically, it's a great chance to boost their confidence by trying something new. You never know, they just might love it. And while they're kicking a soccer ball or catching pop flies, follow the advice of Diane Johnson and get moving yourself. In her article in this issue, she talks about keeping yourself in shape while you're on the move with the little all stars in your family. I hope you check it out. In my family, this has been a crazy sports season. Basketball season officially ended for my daughter in February – until she decided to continue in AAU ball. So it's more gyms for me throughout this month. I love watching her play and will cheer the loudest, despite the fact that I'm craving some sunshine at the baseball field. Those who know me understand my passion for baseball and as my son heads into an upper division this year, I can't wait to get out there and watch him. Now if only I could be in two places at once for the rest of this month! Enjoy the springtime with your little ones. I can't wait to get out and move around after a long winter indoors. I hope to see you out there.
